Geographical and historical context

Several fortifications have been decommissioned and sold by the Swiss Confederation of recent years.  In 2005, the company, NL Pyrotechnique SA, active in the area of pyrotechnology, repurchased Champillon Fort, located near Aigle, with a view to using it as an explosives and pyrotechnical store for entertainment (fireworks) and technical use.

The Municipality of Corbeyrier decided that it did not want to leave the Champillon site inactive and very soon the parties realised that it would be interesting to develop this old fortification by setting up a museum and opening it to the public.  And that is how the Pyromin Museum saw the light of day.

The fort

The Champillon artillery fort, located near the hamlet of Vers Cort, in the Municipality of Corbeyrier, was built between 1942 and 1944 and was decommissioned in 1994.

This old “National Enclave” is built on a single level, with a huge surface entirely dug in the mountainside.  It always arouses the curiosity of visitors.
